Lady Raider Softball Scores Big Upset

The Rider Lady Raider softball team knocked off the third-ranked team in Class 5A on Friday, beating Plano East 2-0.

Samantha Hislop was the winning pitcher, striking out eight Lady Panthers and adding a solo home run in the 7th inning to give herself some breathing room.

Earlier, Hislop 1-hit Rockwall Heath in a 10-1 Lady Raider win.

In another game today, the Lady Raiders fell 12-2 to Plano West, who is ranked 16th in 5A.

Late Thursday night, Rider beat Rowlett 8-1.

Windthorst Advances to Tournament Semifinal

The Windthorst Trojanettes are two wins from taking their own tournament again.

Friday Windthorst beat the Vernon Junior Varsity 11-3 in their first bracket game of the tournament.

Kelsie Berend and Kelsey Hise each went 3/4, Berend had a double and Hise a triple.

They will face Krum in the tournament semifinal Saturday at 1:30 PM, and if they win that game they will be in the championship game at 6 PM against either Haskell or Gunter.

In bracket play earlier in the day, Seymour beat the Vernon JV 4-2 behind an RBI single from Tatiana Martinez, then fell to Gunter by the same score.

Then the Lady Panthers fell to Krum in their first bracket game, setting up a meeting with the Vernon JV at 10:30 AM Saturday. The winner advances to the consolation championship against either Holliday or the Graham JV.

Holliday tied Haskell through three extra innings, but had to leave for the boys' basketball playoff game. So, they flipped a coin and the Maidens came out on top.

Saturday's schedule:

9:00 AM--Holliday vs Graham JV

10:30 AM--Seymour vs Vernon JV

12:00 PM--Haskell vs Gunter

1:30 PM--Windthorst vs Krum

3:00 PM--Consolation Championship

6:00 PM--Championship
