Nocona Brings in a Taste of New Orleans

The City of Nocona is giving Texoma a taste of a long-standing New Orleans tradition. The Nocona Chamber of Commerce hosted its first Mardi Gras Festival Saturday.

Nocona residents were treated to a parade, complete with the traditional Mardi Gras beads and an authentic Cajun meal.

Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday," which is the last day before the start of Lent, a period of fasting and repentance leading up to Easter. Traditionally it is a day for eating and celebration before Lent is observed.

Money raised from the festival will go to the restoration of the old Justin Leathergoods Building at Clay and Willow Streets.
