Sunrise Optimist Softball Tournament: Day 1

The 8th annual Sunrise Optimist Softball Tournament's first day had a great showing of high school softball. 30 softball teams across the Lone Star State gave us plenty of action from the bat to the glove.

Texoma teams represented the Large School Division well,  opening the three day tournament on the right track. Two teams going undefeated at 2-0, Rider and Vernon.

Here's the result from Day 1:

Rider: 2-0

Beat Perryton 10-2, Beat Petrolia 8-0

Vernon: 2-0

Beat Henrietta 5-3, Beat Plainview 4-0

WFHS: 1-0

Beat Bridgeport 10-0

Graham: 1-1

Beat City View 9-1, Lost 4-3 to Petrolia

City View: 1-1

Beat Hirschi 11-0, Lost 9-1 to Graham

Petrolia: 1-1

Beat Graham 4-3, Lost 8-0 to Rider

Henrietta: 1-1

Beat Bridgeport 7-3, Lost 5-3 to Vernon

Hirschi: 0-2

Lost 11-0 to City View, Lost 7-6 to Perryton

    Patrick Fitzgerald's penalty kick goal in the 67th minute gave No. 1 Midwestern State the lead and they defeated 8th-ranked Colorado Mines 2-0 Thursday at Stang Park to claim the South Central regional championship and advance to the NCAA Elite 8, which will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at Stang Park.
