City Baseball Roundup: March 8

The #10 Rider Raiders opened up District 4-4A action Tuesday night with a 5-0 win at Little Elm.

Cameron Allen threw a complete-game shutout to pick up the win.

Kyler Ritchie went 4/4 with a pair of doubles for the Raiders (8-5, 1-0), while Ben Cummings was 3 for 3.

The Raiders will compete in the Abilene Tournament over the weekend, facing Wylie, El Paso Del Valle, Cooper, Sweetwater, and Abilene High over three days.

Then they will finally make their 2011 home debut on Tuesday, March 15 against Lake Dallas.

WFHS Falls to The Colony

The Wichita Falls High School Coyotes were tied at 1 with The Colony through three innings, but couldn't keep up with the Cougars, falling 10-1 at Hoskins Field Tuesday night.

Benton Mowrey drove in Bucky Daws with the lone WFHS run in the bottom of the second inning, and Griffin Russell looked good on the mound early, but the Cougar bats woke up in the fourth inning.

The Coyotes (7-4, 0-1) will also compete in the Abilene Tournament, facing Abilene High, Del Valle, Shallowater, Wylie and Cooper over the weekend.

Notre Dame Drops District Opener

The Notre Dame Knights fell 16-3 to Denton Cavalry Academy in the TAPPS District 1-1A/2A opener.
