MSU's Mooney, Cameron's Harvey Win LSC Awards

Midwestern State's Mallory Mooney gained Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter of the Week Tuesday when the league announced its weekly awards.

The 5-8 junior from Mesquite led the 13th-ranked Mustangs to a perfect 5-0 showing at the Holiday Inn at the Falls/MSU Invitational by hitting .538 with three doubles and a homer while driving in eight runs.

Mooney, who slugged 1.000 and drew four walks to get on base at a .647 clip, notched three multiple-hit games over the weekend.

She connected on a pair of doubles and drove in two runs to lead the Mustangs to a 3-0 win over Abilene Christian on Friday, then pelted St. Edward's with an RBI double and a 3-run homer in a 13-5 win before going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in Sunday's 5-0 win over Incarnate Word.

Cameron's Carrie Harvey, a Burkburnett High product, gained LSC North Pitcher of the Week accolades after shutting out No. 9 Nebraska-Omaha last weekend at the Best Western Spring Fling in Denton.

With a perfect showing at the Holiday Inn at the Falls Invitational, Midwestern State extends its best-ever start to 22-1.

The Mustangs are riding a 13-game winning streak into its LSC North Division opening series Friday and Saturday against Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant.

The teams play a three-game series at SOSU Field beginning with a single game Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday with a first pitch time of 1 p.m.

Somehow tying US Open record with final-round 63 wasn't totally satisfying for Tommy Fleetwood; he wanted a 62.
