BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Trackers are searching for a 27-year-old inmate who Texas prison officials say escaped from a Southeast Texas state prison.
According to a statement from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, David Puckett had been last seen just before 7 p.m. Wednesday in the recreation yard of the Stiles Unit prison in Beaumont. TDCJ spokeswoman Michelle Lyons says prison officers found material from an inmate uniform and socks on a nearby perimeter fence.
Lyons says Puckett had been serving a 30-year prison sentence for aggravated assault of a public servant in Lavaca County and had been in the prison system since February 2002.
The statement describes Puckett as 5½ feet tall and weighing about 155 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
