Softball: Rider Gets 2nd-Straight Run-Rule Win

The Rider Lady Raiders are off to a great start in District 4-4A.

After run-ruling Little Elm 14-0 on Tuesday, they took out Lake Dallas Friday night 10-0 in six innings in their district home opener at Sunrise Optimist Field.

Abby Donnell was in control in the circle, striking out 12 Lady Falcons in six scoreless innings for the win.

She also was in command from the plate, going four for five with two runs scored and two more batted in.

Karly Gibson went 3/4, driving in a run and scoring another.

The #12 Lady Raiders used a three-run third inning to take control of the game.

Donnell started it with a leadoff triple in the third inning, drilling it to the outfield wall.

Taylor Beeman brought her home by trading places, drilling an RBI triple down the left-field line to make it 1-0 Rider.

Morgan Lewis came up next and laced a grounder past the shortstop to score Beeman, winding up at second base after a bad throw.

Gibson drove in Lewis with a wall-ball double of her own, making it 3-0 Lady Raiders through three innings.

Rider improves to 16-5 overall, 2-0 in district heading into their showdown with Denton Ryan Wednesday afternoon at 1 PM in Denton.

WFHS Falls in Last At-Bat

The Wichita Falls HS Lady Coyotes lost 8-7 in Denton on a final at-bat passed ball.

With the score tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh, Denton put runners on second and third. WFHS intentionally walked the Lady Bronco number 5 hitter to load the bases, before a passed ball to the next batter scored the winning run.

Allison Graddy went 3/4 with a triple to lead the Lady Coyotes, scoring a pair of runs and driving in two more.

WFHS has Tuesday off before hosting Little Elm Friday night at 6:30 at Optimist Field two.

Northside Outslugs Hirschi

The Vernon Northside Lady Indians took a 14-13 win over Hirschi Friday at Sunrise Optimist Field.

Sarah Venegas had three hits to lead the Lady Huskies, coming up a home run short of the cycle.
