Uniform Speed Limit Proposed Across TX Highways

Texas lawmakers are proposing 75 miles per hour as the new uniform speed along Texas highways.

Officials say the bill would still ensure safety and mostly apply to divided highways like US 287 and I-44.  Ultimately though, TXDOT will have the final say as to where the speeds are increased.

If approved, the new speed limit would be effective September 1. Legislators say the new limit would be phased in while older signs are taken down.

And for those who are worried about the increase in speed, TXDOT says a recent study showed in the areas where 80 miles per hour was recently added as the speed limit, accidents and deadly collisions decreased.
