Just before 7:30 this morning, Newschannel 6 arrived on the scene of a house fire on 14th Street. The seven units and 17 firefighters focused their first efforts on the garage, where the flames erupted.
Smoke and flames did some damage to the home as well, but after firefighters had most of the flames under control, the blaze spread to the attic, with smoke pouring out from the housetop. Firefighters had to make their way through the roof to get those flames under control.
The house wasn't a total loss, but that can't be said for the garage.
Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour from start to finish. The Battalion Chief says the residents were home at the time, but they made it out safely with no injuries.
The Red Cross is putting them up in a hotel tonight, provided them with food, and is helping the mother get her medications filled.
