High School Baseball: Hawks, Lions Both Fall in Vernon

The Iowa Park Hawks and Vernon Lions each fell to visiting Lubbock Cooper Friday afternoon in a doubleheader in Vernon.

First, the Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Pirates, but couldn't hold on to it. Cooper went ahead with a three-run fourth inning and held off the Hawks for a 7-5 win.

Lee Clubb tripled and scored for Iowa Park in the seventh inning.

The Hawks will open District 6-3A action Tuesday night at home against Hirschi.

Next, the Lions hosted the Pirates, and after digging themselves a 2-0 hole in the first inning, couldn't rally back, falling by a 2-1 final.

Electra Drops Slugfest to Wellington

The Wellington Skyrockets used a fifth-inning grand slam to beat the Electra Tigers 12-11 in District 7-A action Friday night in Electra.

The Tigers (1-7, 0-3) had a chance to tie things up in the seventh, with runners on second and third with no outs, but couldn't push a run across.

Blaze Lynn led the Tiger offense with a three-run home run.

Electra visits Vernon Northside Tuesday at 4:30 in 7-A action.
