Burk City Manager Candidate Turns Down Offer

Newschannel 6 has just learned Tim James has turned down the offer to be Burkburnett's new City Manager. Commissioners voted 4-3 Monday to extend an official offer to James. We spoke with Burk Mayor Carl Law this morning who confirmed James declined the position. James is currently the Assistant City Manager in Graham.

Here is a transcription of his email to Mayor Law.

Mayor Law,

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, the City Council, and City of Burkburnett for the privilege of being considered for the City Manager of Burkburnett.  The City of Burkburnett is an outstanding community and I am truly humbled and  honored that I was the final candidate selected through the rigorous and comprehensive search performed by Ron Holifield and SGR.  Although I was selected as the final candidate, I do not think it would be in the best interest of the City of Burkburnett or community for me to accept the position without the unanimous support of the City Council.  I know the City of Burkburnett has a bright future and I wish you and the City Council the best of luck as you lead the City forward.

Tim S. James, P.E.

Trish Holley is currently the interim City Manager. She replaced interim City Manager Don Ives following his arrest on March 3rd.

The City of Burkburnett has been searching for a City Manager since November. That's when former City Manager Mike Slye left to be the City Manger in Trophy Club, TX.
