TX House Committee Approves First Draft of Budget

A Texas house committee passed a bare-bones budget, making deep cuts to state services over the next two years.  The plan would spend $77.6 billion in state money but under fund public schools by almost $8 billion.  The plan would also leave a $4 billion hole in the state Health and Human Services budget.  The budget will now be sent to the House Scheduling Committee, where it will be set for consideration by the full house.
