Hispanic Leadership Banquet Honors Texomans

Members of the Texoma Community are being honored for community service. The Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative Leadership Banquet was held Saturday.

"We really focus on serving and celebrating and empowering the Hispanic community here in Wichita Falls. We do this through different service projects and we also have our big main event tonight which is the Hispanic leadership banquet," said Angelina Chapa, the group's President.

The banquet honors Hispanics in the community that make a difference in Texoma. Each year, the group works with Wichita County Commissioners to recognize an outstanding leader with the Hispanic of the Year Award.

This year, Alicia Perez was awarded the title. Perez is an Account Executive with Newschannel 6 and Telemundo Texoma. She also serves the Hispanic community by hosting segments on KKTM Telemundo.

The keynote speaker for the event was stand-up comic Shayla Rivera.
