Bowie Cemetery Gets Historical Marker

A Texoma town's cemetery is finally getting its historical due. Members of the Bowie Amity Club held a ceremony to mark the dedication of a historical marker at the Elmwood Cemetery Saturday.

The cemetery dates back to 1880. Amity Club President Barbara Winingham says its about time it is recognized as a historical site. "The City cemetery has been here since before the City of Bowie was organized and therefore we felt like it should be recognized as a historical site," she said.

The Amity Club raised money for the project and also worked to revamp the site.
