Disabled Students Protest TX Cuts To Medicaid

Disabled Texas children sat in front of Chambers today at the Capitol to demonstrate the human faces behind the under funded Medicaid cuts in the budget proposal.

Students sat in wheelchairs to protest the funding measure that would cut a large chunk of the Medicaid program, which provides health care to poor and disabled kids.

Currently, the Texas House continues debating sweeping cuts to the state budget, including a rare reduction in public education funding. The proposal is about $23 billion less than was spent in the last two-year period in both state and federal funds.

Lawmakers believe the debate will continue into the weekend.
