March for Meals

Senior citizen hunger is a problem across America and it affects Texoma as well.

To help the fight against hunger Texomans participated in a 5K run and a one mile fun run Saturday morning.

It kicked off at 9am at Lake Wichita Park.  It benefits the Senior Citizens Services of North Texas.  March for meals is a national campaign brought about to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action in the community.

All the proceeds will benefit the SCSNT including Meals on Wheels, Red Door and Green Door Senior Center, Archer Service Center, and their partnership in the Kids Cafe Children's Nutrition Program.

"It creates awareness among the people of Wichita Falls about what we do and why we need their help.  These are the kinds of things that make our organization operate and help our clients get what they need," said Kayla Watts, Director of Development and Marketing.

Last year the SCSNT served more than 287,000 meals.  Statistics show that one in nine seniors are at risk of hunger in the U.S.
