HS Softball: Burkburnett Reclaims District Lead

The Burkburnett Lady Bulldogs got payback for their loss to Iowa Park back in March, beating the #20 Lady Hawks 5-3 in eight innings Monday night in Iowa Park.

With the game tied in the top of the 8th, Shelby Martin was hit by a pitch to lead it off, then Kaylee Armstrong doubled her home to put the Lady Bulldogs up 4-3, then Kendra Anderson singled Armstrong home for the final margin.

Paige Daino had hit a three-run home run in the third inning to give Burkburnett (7-1 in District 6-3A) a 3-0 lead before Iowa Park (6-2 in district) tied it up to send it to extras.

The Lady Bulldogs will be at third-place Graham Tuesday night for their final road contest of the regular season, before closing the year at home against Bowie on Friday.

Iowa Park will visit Bowie on Tuesday before hosting Senior Night on Friday against Vernon.

Rider Returns to District With Run-Rule Win

The #19 Rider Lady Raiders returned to District 4-4A action on Monday with a 10-0 win over The Colony that was over in six innings.

Playing on Teacher Appreciation Day, the Lady Raiders got another big effort from sophomore Abby Donnell, who allowed just one hit while striking out seven in six innings from the circle, and went 4/4 from the plate with three runs scored and one batted in.

Donnell set the tone early by striking out two Lady Cougars in the first inning, then leading off the home half of the first with a stand-up triple down the left-field line, then scoring on a wild pitch that didn't get far from the catcher.

Sammie Hislop added to the Lady Raider attack with a two-run double in the sixth that made it 9-0, then scored the winning run on Bailey McCreary's single to end it early.

The Lady Raiders, who had already clinched a playoff spot, improved to 23-7 overall and 8-2 in district play with two games remaining.

They will host Denton Tuesday night at 6:30 at Optimist Field 2, before facing rival Wichita Falls High School, as the road team, in the season finale for both teams on Friday. That game will be varsity-only and start at 6:30.
