The Wichita County Commissioners are taking action to keep resources flowing to the volunteer fire fighters and victims of the firestorm in Texoma.
Commissioners made big decisions for fire relief funding, funding that will help out with our local fire departments. Commissioners approved to extend the declaration of disaster for Wichita County. Commissioners also approved 150,000 dollars to help with response and recovery efforts. This will go toward paying overtime for non-exempt county responders and additional regular time for exempt personnel, who are assisting with the wild fires. Wichita County Judge Woody Gossom said it is in Texoma's most dire moments, he is the most proud. And everybody is coming together to help firestorm recovery efforts.
Local fire departments, agencies, and even individuals who helped fight the firestorm could be eligible for some money. You need to contact your local commissioner's precinct to apply.
More financial aid could be headed to Texoma if the White House approves a Federal Disaster Declaration requested by Governor Rick Perry for the state of Texas.
