WFISD Teacher of the Year Named

The Wichita Falls Independent School District named it's teacher of the year.

Joyce McCurdy is the winner. McCurdy is a 6th grade teacher at Southern Hills Elementary School. She won out of several nominations.

She expressed her gratitude for winning the big the district prize. "I'm humbled and I want to thank you so much. I'm just as good as the people that I work with, and that just speaks volumes of my school family. I love each and every one of them."

McCurdy received a plaque, a monetary award presented by the Times Record News, and a flag flown over the Texas state capitol by state representative Lanham Lyne. She will now go on to compete at the regional level.

The three finalists will receive monetary awards sponsored by the WFISD  foundation.
