HS Softball Roundup: April 25

Petrolia and Seymour battle for playoff seeding

Petrolia and Seymour's softball teams were both bound for the postseason, but the pair of teams tied for the District 7-A lead. The team met for a third time this year, with a Bi-District bye on the line.

Seymour struck first in the top of the third, as Haley Fox drove in Rachel Peters with an RBI double to put the Lady Panthers ahead 1-0.

Petrolia fired back in the bottom of the fourth, as Alaina Anderson hit a ball to the gap in right center that drove in Kenzie Payne. The Lady Pirates looked to add to the lead with the bases loaded, but Macey Siegert made a head up play of a lined shot off the bat of Molly Wherland to end the inning with a double play at second.

Petrolia broke through in the bottom half of the fifth. Jamie Kowalick reached first on a bunt, but a bad throw to first allowed her to advance to third. Payne drove her in with a hard hit ball to second to give the Lady Pirates a 2-1 lead.

Then, Katie Cummings ripped a ball hard to Amy Hollar at third. Abby Anderson scored easily, but after a series of bad throws, Kenzie Payne would score, with the batter Cummings coming all the way around to make it a 5-1 lead.

The Lady Pirates finished the game with a 6-1 lead. They earn the bye through to the area round.

Lady Knights Claim District Title

In another district tiebreaker, Notre Dame outslugged Watauga Harvest Christian 17-15 Friday afternoon in Bowie to claim TAPPS District 1-A/2A.

Hayli Otto returned from a shoulder injury to strike out 14 Lady Saints in a game played with a strong win blowing out to the short left-field fence in Bowie.

Otto also hit a first-inning grand slam to start the scoring, and it didn't end for hours.

The Lady Knights will host an Area Round game May 3rd against the fourth-place team from District 2-A/2A.

Holliday Takes Warmup From Windthorst

The Holliday Lady Eagles won a playoff warmup game against the #17 Windthorst Trojanettes Monday afternoon by a 4-3 final score.

Michelle Townsend picked up the win for Holliday, while going 2/3 from the plate.

Windthorst, as winner of District 8-A, will receive a bye to the Area Round.

The Lady Eagles, as the #3 seed from District 9-2A, will face Godley in the Bi-District round. It will be a one-game series Friday night at 7:30 in Mineral Wells.
