High School Playoff Previews: Rider, Iowa Park

The High School Softball playoffs open up Friday, with five of the eight series involving Texoma teams being one-game playoffs.

One team that's not going that route is the Rider Lady Raiders. They're going to play a best-of-three series against the Canyon Lady Eagles, starting Friday night at 7:30 at Lubbock's Monterey High School.

The best-of-3 format could benefit the 25-7 Lady Raiders, who have two stud pitchers in senior Sammy Hislop and sophomore Abby Donnell.

Last year they advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals before falling in three games to Mansfield Legacy, but this year they're looking to go much further.

Tuesday we talked to the Lady Raiders about their matchup with Canyon. To hear from Donnell and Hislop, as well as Head Coach Alisha Crouch, click on the video player!

Iowa Park Preparing for Big Spring

One team that will be playing a one-game series is the Iowa Park Lady Hawks. They'll play a winner-take-all game Friday night in Graham against Big Spring.

For the Lady Hawks, the one-game format is also a win, allowing them to put it all on freshman ace Peyton Helton

Helton has been spectacular for Iowa Park this season, with a 14-6 record and a strong bat at the plate, too.

When we spoke to Helton and coach Ricky Ledford, they didn't seem too concerned about putting the game in the hands of a rookie.

They also talked about their big win earlier this year at Burkburnett, the first win for Iowa Park over Burkburnett in anyone's memory, which they felt springboarded them to their big year.

Somehow tying US Open record with final-round 63 wasn't totally satisfying for Tommy Fleetwood; he wanted a 62.
