HS Baseball: Rider Denies WFHS Chance to Clinch

The Wichita Falls High School Coyotes had a chance to clinch a playoff spot with a win over their arch-rival, the Rider Raiders.

But the Raiders were having none of that, taking their 7th straight rivalry win, and 5th straight by in the series by shutout, beating the Coyotes 7-0 Friday night at Hoskins Field.

Ben Smith held Old High to just two hits, while striking out 15 Coyote batters, and Cameron Allen had two doubles in three at-bats, driving in a run.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for WFHS (19-13, 6-6), who will have a one-game playoff with Lake Dallas Monday at 7:30 in Mineral Wells.

The Falcons fell to Denton Ryan 3-0 Friday night to stay tied with the Coyotes.

Rider will play a warmup match Saturday at 1 PM at Hoskins against Abilene Wylie, then they will likely face Dumas in the Bi-District round. That series will be played in Elk City, Okla., next Friday at 7:30 and Saturday at 11 AM.

Graham Holds Off IPHS in Tiebreaker

The Graham Steers entered Friday's tiebreaker with a much better record at 23-7 overall than Iowa Park's 15-10, but they were both 8-2 in District 6-3A play, and split their regular-season meetings.

It was a narrow contest but the Steers edged out the Hawks 6-5 to take the district's top seed and its first-round bye.
