Rider's softball team opened up its three-game Bi-District playoff series with a 5-0 over Canyon in Lubbock. Senior pitcher Sammy Hislop set a new career-high mark for strikeouts in a game with 17.
The Lady Raiders scored in the first, as Morgan Lewis dropped a bunt in front. Lewis would be thrown out at first, but after a wild throw to third, Abby Donnell would come home to score.
Rider opened it up in the sixth. Hislop had a RBI base hit and Bailey McCreary added a two-run single. The Lady Raiders scored four in the frame to put the game away.
Game two is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Lubbock High School's Westerner Field. Game three will follow 30 minutes later if necessary.
Iowa Park scored five runs in the bottom of the first in their Bi-District matchup with Big Spring, and the team didn't look back from there.
The 24th-ranked Lady Hawks added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Bailey Voigt smacked a ball to deep left field that fell just short of a home run. The hit knocked in Blair Untalan. Moments later, Kelley Woods drove in another run with a grounder that went under the shortstop's legs.
The end came early as Iowa Park finished it off 10-0 in five innings.
City View's Ciara Clampitt fired 12 strikeouts in the #7 Lady Mustang's 4-0 Region II-2A Bi-District shutout win over Millsap. The senior started the game strong, striking out the side in the bottom of the second.
Danielle Wollum provided the offense with a two-run homer.
Clampitt improves to 7-0 on the season.
The Lady Mustangs will face District 12-2A champion Caddo Mills in the Area Round.
Quanah loses first of three-game series
The Lady Indians led 4-0 early, but the Lady Pirates turned things around, scoring the game's final nine runs.
Perrin-Whitt used a two-out rally in the top of the sixth to add to a 5-4 lead. Destiny Stephens grounded a ball hard to third. Quanah's Kylie Watson throw to first was a tad too late, allowing Allie Bradley to score.
