Women's Golf: MSU's Whittley Shoots 2nd-Straight 80

Midwestern State's Kendra Whittley faced tough conditions and the nation's toughest regional field Monday afternoon at the par-72, 5,964-yard course at the Tascosa Country Club.
 
The sophomore from Wall remained in the top half of the draw and is tied for 23rd going into Tuesday's final round after carding matching 80s for a 16-over total of 160.
 
Battling temperatures ranging from 38 degrees at tee time, Whittley carded nine bogeys and a birdie on the Par-4, 300-yard No. 3.
 
The field of 49 features 30 of the top 92 golfers in NCAA Division II according to the GolfStat ratings system.
 
Tarleton State's Carla Cooper tops the individual leader board firing 73s in each of the first two rounds for a 2-over total of 146 to lead by six strokes over Western Washington's Sophie Elstrott, who recorded rounds of 81 and 71 for an 8-over total of 152.
 
The TexAnns top the team leader board with a two-round total of 610 (+34) and lead Western Washington (625/+49) by 15 strokes.
