#3 MSU Places 3 on All-LSC Tournament Team

Midwestern State's Alyson Reynolds, Mallory Mooney and Kristina Gutierrez were named to the Lone Star Conference Championship all-tournament team.

West Texas A&M claimed its first league softball title by taking a pair of games from East Central by scores of 5-3 and 12-2 in six innings Saturday afternoon at the Multi-Sports Complex in Durant.
 
The Lady Buffs, who notched a 5-1 mark in tournament play, claimed an unreal seven spots on the all-tournament squad including catcher Meghan Brown, second baseman Kaitlyn Witte, shortstop Alyssa Lemos, outfielders Kim LeComte and Meghan Slattery and pitchers Marci Womack and Shelbey Cockrell.
 
In a tournament dominated by offense, Cockrell gained MVP honors claiming only two of WT's five wins and added a save while posting a 3.18 ERA in 22 tournament innings.
 
Reynolds slugged homers in four of the Mustangs five games and finished 8-for-16 at the dish while scoring seven runs and driving nine more.
 
Mooney hit .412 (8-for-17) with two homers and eight RBIs while scoring five runs. She continued her stellar play at the hot corner by handing each of her nine chances flawlessly.
 
Gutierrez went 2-2 with a 3.45 ERA in four appearances including three starts over the weekend. She notched 25 strikeouts and walked two in 19 2/3 innings.
 
The Mustangs, who hit .409 as a team during tournament play, had a few notable omissions from the squad including designated player Brittney Tanner (.563, 1 HR, 5 RBI) and sophomore outfielder Elena Bennett (.556, 5 R, 3 SB).
 
East Central placed three players on the team including outfielder Cassandra Nordie, utility player Cami Correa and pitcher Wanda Malone. Angelo State outfielder Morgan Spearman was the only other player named to the team.
 
The NCAA Division II Softball postseason field will be announced Monday morning at 9 a.m. via a live Web stream on NCAA.com.
 
The Mustangs will likely host a regional for the second consecutive season which could be played next Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Mustangs Park.
