HS Softball: City View Sweeps Top-Ranked Brock

City View's Ciara Clampitt struck out 20 batters in the fifth-ranked Lady Mustangs's 4-3 extra-innings victory over Brock, the top team in Class 2A, yesterday.

Most of the time, sequels don't measure up to the original. In game two of a Regional Quarterfinal Best of 3 in Jacksboro, the sequel measured up.

With two runners in scoring position, two outs and a full count in the top of the sixth inning of a scoreless game, Clampitt hit a ball hard on the ground through the left side, driving in Taylor Payne and Lacey Taylor.

The two-run single put City View ahead, and the Lady Mustangs never looked back, winning 2-0 to advance to the Region II-2A Semifinals.

Clampitt added 10 strikeouts in the circle. City View will play Crawford next week.

Burkburnett sweeps doubleheader

In Region I-3A action, Burkburnett swept Kennedale in a night doubleheader in Graham to advance to the Regional Semifinals.

The Lady Bulldogs scattered 10 runs from the third to the sixth innings in the first game, on the way to a 10-3 win.

Burkburnett came right back for a 5-1 victory in the nightcap.

The Lady Bulldogs will play the winner of Lubbock Cooper and Andrews next week.

Windthorst Out-Slugs Seymour to Take Game 1

The Windthorst Trojanettes took a 12-7 win over #9 Seymour that at times felt a little more comfortable than the final score, and at times felt much closer.

The host Trojanettes turned a 4-2 lead into an 8-2 ballgame in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run double by Megan Pennartz and another two-run double by Logan Pennartz that brought in both Megan Pennartz and Kelsey Hise.

Seymour would cut the lead to 8-5 though, heading into the bottom of the sixth, when Lexi Koetter hit a home run to extend Windthorst's lead to 12-5. Koetter finished with a double and the home run, and three runs batted in.

Seymour had one last gasp left, with a home run from Carol Swindell in the 7th to cut the lead to 12-7 before Hise closed out the game to record the save.

Brittney Schreiber got the win for the Trojanettes.

Game 2 will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Seymour, with Game 3 to follow if necessary.
