After a pair of closer-than-expected wins over Dumas in the Bi-District Round, the #8 Rider Raiders wasted no time flexing their muscles in Game 1 of their Area Round series against El Paso Chapin, taking an 18-3 win at San Angelo Lakeview HS.
Cameron Allen struck out 13 for the Raiders to improve to 9-0 on the season.
The hitting star was Christien Sager, who went 4/5 with five runs batted in, three doubles and a triple. His four extra-base hits set a Rider record.
The Raiders led 9-0 after two innings, 10-1 through three, and 11-3 heading to the seventh, where they capped it off with a 7-run exclamation point.
Game 2 will be Saturday at 11 a.m. back in San Angelo, with Game 3 to follow 30 minutes later if needed.
The Windthorst Trojans are having trouble just getting games in, and now they'll have to rally with a pair of wins Saturday to stay alive.
After having Game 1 of their series against Bosqueville postponed due to rain Thursday night in Lake Worth, they planned on a double-header Friday.
But around 2:30 Friday afternoon, word came that someone had stolen the copper wire from the stadium's lights, meaning no night game, and no double-header.
The Trojans played the first game, and lost 7-0 to put themselves in a hole they faced several times in their State Championship run of a year ago.
