HS Baseball: Archer City Wins Big

The Archer City Baseball team's bats caught fire in a two-game sweep over Valley Mills. The 10th-ranked Wildcats ended its Region II-A Area Best of 3 Series with an 18-6 victory at Justin Northwest High School.

Archer City scored early and often against the Eagles. Tanner Victory emptied the bases with a three-run triple to right field in the top of the first to put the Wildcats ahead 5-0. Weston Wuthrich and Jody Bullard added RBI's in the top of the second to increase the lead to 7-0.

Archer City will play Olney in the Regional Quarterfinals.

Rider sweeps to advance

No. 7 Rider topped El Paso Chapin to sweep their Region I-4A Area Best of 3 Series. After winning game one 18-3 yesterday, the Raiders took game two 5-1 at San Angelo Lake View today.

Ben Smith pitched a gem, going the distance for a three-hit, 14-strikeout performance on the mound.

Christien Sagar had two triples and drove in three runs from the plate.

Rider will play Frenship in the Regional Quarterfinals.

Questionable call in Graham

Graham looked impressive in a 7-0 series-opening victory over Bridgeport Thursday, but one call in game two might have changed the entire series today.

The Steers trailed 5-4 in the top of the fifth. Bridgeport's Damian Delgado hit a ball back up the middle. The ball hit the umpire. Graham's Josh Gallaway made a great play on the ball to get the out at first, but the ump ruled the ball dead and awarded a base hit.

From that point on, Bridgeport scored 11 unanswered runs on the way to a 16-4 win.

The Bulls went on to win game three 6-5 to complete the rally and win the series 2-1.

Defending champs go down and Olney advances

Bosqueville eliminated defending Class A state champion Windthorst with a 5-3 win to sweep their Region II-A Best of 3 Quarterfinal.

Also in Class A, Olney completed a sweep over Goldthwaite. The Cubs won game two 14-6 at Leander Rouse High School.

Olney will play Archer City in the Regional Quarterfinals.
