HS Softball: Windthorst Knocks Out Seymour

Game two of Windthorst versus Seymour's Region I-A Best of 3 Quarterfinal was a back-and-forth affair.

The Trojanettes struck first with a RBI ground out from Kelsey Hise in the top of the first, but 9th-ranked Seymour rallied right back with a four-run bottom half, including a two-run home run from Tatiana Martinez.

Windthorst bounced back with a Lexi Koetter RBI that drove in Brittney Schreiber. The Trojanettes would wind up with an 11-4 win. Kelsie Berend finished a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, while Paige Dillon added a home run.

Windthorst will now play No. 8 Albany in a Best of 3 Regional Semifinal in Graham. First game is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday. Second game is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with a third game set for half-an-hour later if necessary.

Rider falls short

Rider took a 9-0 loss from No. 6 Canyon Randall to open their Region I-4A Best of 3 Quarterfinal yesterday, but like the Area Round, Rider bounced back with a big game two victory.

The Lady Raiders won 12-0. Sammy Hislop went 4-4 with a two-run home run, three RBI's and two runs scored. Abby Donnell struck out seven in a two-hit performance in the circle.

Rider led game three 6-2, but Canyon Randall rallied back to win it in the bottom of the seventh 7-6. Morgan Lewis went 2-4 with three RBI's, while Donnell struck out eight.

Rider finishes the year 30-11.

Iowa Park down and out

Iowa Park also went to three games in their Region I-3A Best of 3 Quarterfinal with West at Argyle. The Lady Hawks dropped game two 11-1 in five innings and game two 7-4.

After watching the Dallas Cowboys run around in just helmets the first two days, it was finally time to hear the pads clash together.  Head Coach Jason Garrett stuck to his normal game plan of having the offense and defense practice separately to start camp, but today the pads went on and the competition ramped up. "This is when we can come out and actually show what we've worked on and show that we've put in work. It starts when guys walk in the locker room...
