UPDATE: Damage Estimates on State Highway 240 Fire

Fire officials have confirmed new details about a fire in Wichita County that threatened two homes and an oil derrick. Crews say no structures were destroyed from yesterday's blaze near the intersection of State Highway 240 and FM 1739, between Electra and Burkburnett. They have confirmed around 800 acres were charred from the flames.

Our crews were on the scene. One helicopter was used to spray water on the blaze. Two bulldozers and two tankers from Childress also assisted in battling the blaze.

Fire departments from Electra, Punkin Center, Burkburnett, and Harrold all responded to the fire. The Red Cross chapter in Wichita Falls also helped with water for firefighters.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. It is suspected that overhead power lines slapping together was the cause near FM1739 and FM2345.
