A missing Wimberley boy has been found safe after the Hays County Sheriff's Department issued an Amber Alert.

According to the Sheriff's office, 13-year-old Dakota Shane Thompson,  went missing Sunday afternoon after being seen last with 35-year-old Christopher Brian Perry, a family friend he was living with in Wimberley.

Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez of the Hays County Sheriff's Department says the boy was found safe and unharmed in Madisonville County, 35 miles northwest of Huntsville. Sgt. Gutierrez said that the suspect's vehicle was located on I-45 and officers engaged in a pursuit. Perry and Thompson both called 911 while inside the car, and officers were able to convince Perry to surrender.

The circumstances that led to the incident are unclear. Sgt. Gutierrez said one of Thompson's parents became concerned over the safety of their child after allegations were made. The parent wanted their child returned but Perry refused, which lead to the Amber Alert.

Perry has been charged with kidnapping and theft of a vehicle.
