Suspected Montague Co. Cattle Rustler Arrested In South Padre

A man wanted for suspected cattle rustling in Montague County was taken into custody near South Padre Island.

A deputy constable explains he spotted three men allegedly puffing on a marijuana cigarette on a beach Sunday. The deputy went in to investigate, where he says he discovered one of the men, 23-year-old Esequiel Miranda, had an outstanding warrant for cattle theft out of Montague County.

The two other men at the scene were also found wanted for outstanding warrants, one wanted for possession of a controlled substance, the other in an assault case.

Montague County District Attorney Jack McGaughey confirms Miranda is the second of three suspects arrested for the theft of nine head of cattle, occurring in May of last year.

Miranda remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under a $30,000 bond, but faces extradition to Montague County.

Records indicate Miranda has a previous conviction for marijuana.
