3 Okla. Counties Searched For Boy Missing After Tornado

PIEDMONT, Okla. (AP) - Crews are searching a three-county area in central Oklahoma for a 3-year-old boy who hasn't been seen since a strong tornado swept through his Piedmont neighborhood.

Mayor Valerie Thomerson said Wednesday that she isn't giving up hope that the child is alive, though the scope of the search suggests the worst.

The search area spans three counties and includes a lake near the boy's neighborhood and fields surrounding Piedmont, a suburb northwest of Oklahoma City.

Thomerson and emergency officials say the boy's mother and two siblings were taken to an Oklahoma City hospital after the tornado.

Dive teams have searched Falcon Lake close to the boy's home and the search on the ground has extended as far away as Guthrie, 30 miles to the northeast. Helicopters also have been used in the
search.
