HS Softball: #2 Petrolia Falls Short

The No. 2 Petrolia Lady Pirates lost the opening game of their Region I-A Best of 3 Series against No. 3 Albany.

The Lady Lions struck early first, as Tamlyn Keller and Kathryn Hamilton each drove in runs to give Albany a 2-0 lead after one.

Petrolia's Alaina Anderson settled in the circle the rest of the way, only giving up one the rest of the game.

A controversial call headlined the top of the fifth. Petrolia's Cheyenne Reese hit a slow-rolling ball to the left side of the circle. Albany shortstop Jami Schkade charged the ball and tossed to third. Petrolia's runner was called safe, and it appeared the bases were loaded with only one out. But, after an umpire conference, the runner was called out for running outside of the base path. Petrolia failed to score in the inning.

The Lady Pirates were able to put a pair on the board, but would fall in the end 3-2.

The pair of teams resume their series Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

Burkburnett delayed

The Region I-3A Best of 3 Final Game 1 between No. 7 Burkburnett and No. 8 West was delayed for nearly an hour because of an umpire staffing issue.

Once a crew arrived, the Lady Bulldogs trail 3-2 in the top of the fifth at press time.
