House and Senate Approve Texas Budget

Texas has a new two-year budget.

The budget has been approved for $172 billion.  Budget leaders expect full house and senate votes on Saturday.  They would then send the document to Governor Rick Perry before the session is scheduled to end Monday.

The plan makes available $37 billion for basic school operations.  The budget makes $15 billion in cuts compared to current spending.  That doesn't account for billions in expected costs related to population and enrollment growth.
