Baseball: Rider Sweeps into Region I-4A Final

Rider and Fort Worth Arlington Heights have waged some epic battles over the years, meeting six times in the last eight postseasons.

Friday night was not one of those.

The Raiders hit Heights early and often, rolling to a 10-0 win in five innings.

Ben Smith (3-0) pitched all five innings for the win, recording 12 of his 15 outs by way of the strikeout in a dominating performance.

Gage Green was 3-4 with a two-run home run and a two-run single in back-to-back innings, while Smith aided (and shortened) his own cause with a 4-4 night at the plate and a run batted in.

The Raiders advance to face the winner of the other Region I-4A Semifinal, between Rider's District 4-4A rival Lake Dallas, who finished 4th in the district and had to beat Old High in a one-game playoffs, and Burleson, who finished third in District 7-4A.

That series is tied at one game apiece, and will be decided in a Game 3 Saturday at 1 p.m. in Grapevine.
