Rider Advances to State with Blowout Win

The Rider Raiders could have ended this one early, but Burleson scored 3 in the bottom of the sixth to keep it going.

Then, Rider made the Elks pay for delaying their celebration.

The #7 Raiders scored 7 runs in a seemingly-endless seventh inning to put the exclamation point on a 21-6 beating of Burleson in Game 3 of the Region I-4A Final at Hardin-Simmons University's Hunter Field in Abilene.

The Raiders (37-7) rallied to win two games after losing Game 1 of the series and will play in the Class 4A State Tournament for the second straight season. This is Rider's 3rd State Tournament appearance overall.

The State Semifinals will be played at 4 and 7 p.m. Thursday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, with the Championship game set for Friday night at 7 p.m.

The Raiders scored in six of seven innings Saturday, pounding out 20 hits and taking advantage of 6 Burleson errors, while playing error-free defense themselves.

Blake Brom was the offensive star, as the Rider 6-hole hitter was 5 for 6 with two home runs and a triple. His only hitless at-bat was a ground ball where he reached on an error that was originally scored an infield hit.

Kyler Ritchie was 4-6 with a triple and a double, while Christien Sager homered and drove in four runs for Rider.

Cameron Allen (12-2) relieved Blake Burrus in the third inning to pick up the win. Ben Smith pitched the 7th inning to close it out.
