Wichita Falls City Council Could Restructure Fire Department

The Wichita Falls City Council is meeting on Tuesday and on their agenda is an ordinance that would change the structure of the Wichita Falls Fire Department.
Fire Chief Earl Foster would like to restructure the ranks in the department to make it more streamline. The proposal calls for a reduction in the amount of Captains, Lieutenants and Fire Equipment Operators. It would increase the number of positions in the Fire Fighter classification. This reorganization will not see anyone lose their jobs and will be done through attrition. In all the total number in the Wichita Falls Fire Department would only drop by one. The goal of this is to allow the department to attack structure fires as soon as they get on the scene instead of having to wait for other units to arrive.
Also on the agenda is the awarding of a $999,000 bid for the 2011 Utility Improvements Project. That project will replace old steal waterlines with new larger ones. It will also replace a number of old valves. The city budgeted right at $1,000,000 for the project. City Council meets Tuesday in Council Chambers at Municipal Auditorium.
