Rider to Face Brenham Again in State Semifinals

For the second straight season, the Rider Raiders will face the Brenham Cubs in Round Rock for the Class 4A State Semifinals.

For Rider this will be the third rematch of the 2011 playoffs, after they duplicated their 2010 victories over Wolfforth Frenship and Fort Worth Arlington Heights.

Now they will hope that the script changes against the #1 Cubs, who went on to win the State Title after edging Rider 3-2 in 8 innings.

The Raiders return 8 of their 10 starters from last year's semifinal game, everyone except center fielder Seth Carter and shortstop Reid Barnett.

Brenham returns four starters: shortstop Drake Roberts, center fielder Chance Bolcerek, first baseman Colten Walla and pitcher Ty Schlottman, who was the pitcher that held Rider to two runs in six innings, striking out nine to pick up the win.

Three of the four teams heading to Round Rock are making their second-straight appearance, including 2010 State Semifinalist Corpus Christi Calallen.

The only new team in the field is Region II Champion Mesquite Poteet, who beat 2010 representative Frisco Wakeland in the Regional Semifinals.

The #7 Raiders and Cubs will square off at 4 p.m. Thursday at Dell Diamond, followed by #8 Poteet and #4 Calallen at 7 p.m.

The State Final will be at 7 p.m. Friday, also at Dell Diamond.

There will be a sendoff for the Raiders Wednesday morning at 8:30 in front of the Rider baseball field by the school.
