Sports Minute: Here is the latest Texas sports news from The Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) - The NFL has muddled a divisive issue even more by announcing that players will be required to stand for the national anthem if they're on the field before games. The league's new policy has stirred up defenders of free speech, prompted a couple of owners to quickly backtrack and raised all sorts of potential questions heading into next season.

HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Rockets have a chance to take their first lead in the Western Conference finals with a win over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night. To do that they'll need their superstars to step up again, with the pressure on James Harden and Chris Paul to deliver after their big performances in Game 3 spurred Houston to the road victory that tied the best-of-seven series at 2-2.

HOUSTON (AP) - Justin Verlander got some run support for the first time in nearly a month and led the Houston Astros over the San Francisco Giants 4-1. Verlander struck out nine and walked one in six innings, allowing one run and three hits as he improved to 6-2. His major league-leading ERA rose slightly to 1.08. Will Harris, Brad Peacock and Ken Giles each followed with a one-hit inning.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Jurickson Profar had a bases-clearing double to put the Texas Rangers ahead to stay in a wild, series-clinching 12-10 win over the New York Yankees, who matched a major league record with four more homers. Gleyber Torres became the youngest Yankee ever to homer in three consecutive games and Aaron Judge hit a 471-foot blast as New York became only the third team in major league history with 21 homers in a five-game stretch _ 12 of those in Texas.

HOUSTON (AP) - When the Houston Rockets suit up for Thursday night's Western Conference finals game, they'll carry onto the court a remembrance of the 10 people who lost their lives in last week's Texas school shooting in Santa Fe. Each player's uniform will feature a gray rectangular patch on one shoulder that will read: "Santa Fe HS" when they meet the Golden State Warriors in Game 5. The words will be in green writing with a yellow outline as a nod to the school's colors.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A.J. Balta had four RBIs, including a three-run double in the second inning, to help sixth-seeded TCU make easy work of third-seeded Texas Tech with a 12-2 win in the opening round of the Big 12 baseball tournament. Balta finished 2 for 3 for the Horned Frogs, who advanced to face No. 7 seed West Virginia on Thursday.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) - Less than two years removed from spectacular rookie seasons that transformed the Dallas offense, quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott are even more in control of the future of the Cowboys.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Jordan Spieth also considers Colonial a hometown tournament, and has had much more success at Hogan's Alley than the Byron Nelson. Spieth has a win and two runner-up finishes the last three years at Colonial. He played in his first PGA Tour event as a 16-year-old high school junior at the Byron Nelson. But that is his best finish in eight appearances there. Webb Simpson tees off after winning The Players Championship earlier this month. He was a top-five finisher at Colonial the last two years.
