Five Rider Raiders Named to 4A All-Tournament Team

Rider's Cameron Allen, headed to Arkansas-Little Rock in the fall, was already the UIL Class 4A State Tournament MVP, after pitching 9 innings in Round Rock plus making the defensive play of the tournament with his diving catch at shortstop against Calallen.

It was his second MVP award at a major tournament in less than a calendar year, following his domination of the Don Mattingly World Series last fall with the Burkburnett Blacksox.

Now the THSBCA has decided four more Raiders deserve All-Tournament honors for their performances at Dell Diamond.

Ben Smith, signed to Coastal Carolina, was named the All-Tournament first baseman after playing nine perfect innings in the field, plus throwing 5 innings on the hill and getting the Championship Game win for Rider.

Christien Sager, who will play basketball at Oklahoma State, was named the team's second baseman after going 4-5 in the two games with two runs batted in and a run scored.

Junior outfielder Blake Brom was honored for his 2-6 showing at the plate, which included a solo home run against Brenham that was the eventual winning run and a two-run single in Rider's 4-run first inning against Calallen.

Finally, Rider catcher Gage Green, headed to Oklahoma State, was named the all-tournament team's utility man after going 2-4 with two runs scored in Rider's championship-game win and also handling all 14 innings behind the plate without allowing a wild pitch, passed ball or stolen base against.
