It's never too early to start talking high school football here in Texas, and a few Texoma teams are getting some early pre-season hype.
Chief among them are the Windthorst Trojans, who were ranked #1 in the state in Class A Division II by Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine, which came out this week.
Coach Bill Green's Trojans were 12-2 and state finalists last year, losing to Falls City (14-1), who is ranked #3 in the poll.
Windthorst's District 8-A-II rivals, the Munday Moguls, are also ranked at number four. The Moguls were 11-3 in 2010, with two of those losses coming to the Trojans.
In the same magazine's other pre-season rankings, the Throckmorton Greyhounds, 15-1 state runners-up in Six-Man Division I, are ranked number two.
They trail #1 Borden County, who was 10-2 in 2010 with both losses coming to state champion Garden City, by a combined 3 points.
Garden City (15-0) is #3 in the pre-season poll.
The Holliday Eagles are ranked #9 in Class 2A Division II.
The Eagles finished the season 9-4 and were Region 1-2A-II semifinalists, falling to eventual state champion Idalou, who is ranked #2 in the DCTF rankings.
Holliday and Windthorst will open the Texoma football season with their regular Zero-Week matchup, moved up to Thursday this year when the game will be played August 25th at Trojan Stadium.
