35th Annual Air Race Classic Underway

Two Texoma women are making history by becoming the first from our area to compete in the Air Race Classic.

Weather and other issues forced the race to start in Alliance, Nebraska instead of Iowa City, Iowa. Stops in Brookings and Spearfish, S.D.; Jamestown, N.D.; and Rawlins, Wyo., have been eliminated as well.

More than 100 women operating 50 aircraft took off from the alliance airport Wednesday afternoon. Mary Latimer and Elizabeth Hawley, who are from Wichita Falls and Vernon are participating in the race.

The race stops include Great Bend, Kansas; Borger, Texas; Norman, Oklahoma; and El Dorado, Arkansas. The race ends in Mobile, Alabama.
