Cornelius Classic Championship

The Blacksox 17U team gave on older Forth Worth Monarchs team all they could handle in the 18U Division Championship at the Cornelius Classic at Burkburnett.

The Blacksox scored first, with a 2-run double from Tony Reyes and an RBI single from Old High's Griffin Russell in the top of the first. Unfortunately, the Monarchs scored the next six runs.

The Blacksox rallied back in the top of the fifth. Rider's Blake Brom smashed a 2-run home run to left-center field, then Russell drove in Reyes with an RBI single to right field to tie it up at 6-6.

Burkburnett looked to be in good shape with runners at the corners and no outs, but a double steal attempt failed to bring a run home as Russell was safe at second and Dylan Gadberry was out at home. Garrett Fisher later struck out to end the inning.

The bottom half of the frame proved to be too much, as the Monarchs scored four runs and would go on to win the game 11-6.

The 17U team returns to action on the road next week at the Rice Invitational in Houston.
