Pickup Truck Drivers, Buckle Up Or Pay Up

A program similar to the Click It or Ticket campaign kicks off Monday, but this one focuses specifically on saving the lives of pickup truck drivers.

It runs through the middle of July and is in place because the state feels pickup truck drivers are not getting the message that seat belts save lives.

TXDOT officials say crashes involving pickup trucks can be particularly deadly for those not buckled up because of the tendency for the trucks to roll over and for occupants to be thrown from the vehicles.

Officials say wearing a seat belt in a pickup reduces the risk of deadly injury by 60 percent.
