Weekend Morning Meteorologist/Reporter

KAUZ-TV 6 News is seeking a Weekend Morning Meteorologist/Reporter to prepare and deliver weather forecasts for broadcast. The Channel 6 Weather team has a long tradition of covering severe weather in this two state television market.  The successful candidate will share our commitment to cover severe weather in tornado alley and track severe weather using the latest technology; keeping our viewers up to date with the latest weather information. 

Responsibilities of our Weekend Meteorologist include analyze and interpret meteorological data for forecasts in newscasts; shoot, write, and edit weather stories; track storms using Weather Central's: Live and 3D: Live and ESP: LIVE radar; cover and track severe weather. So, the successful candidate will have a good understanding of severe weather in tornado alley, and be willing to work long and sometimes extended hours covering severe weather.  In addition to covering all weekend weathercast duties, including weekend morning and evening shows, the weekend meteorologist is also required to fill-in for the chief meteorologist or morning meteorologist when necessary, prepare weather-related packages for our annual severe weather program, and make public appearances to schools and civic groups.  This job may also require other duties and shifts that are deemed necessary by our chief meteorologist, news director, and station management. 

Responsibilities also include acting as a general assignments reporter, three days per week. As a general assignments reporter, the candidate would be required to set up, shoot and edit their own stories. 

The qualified candidate will have knowledge and/or understanding of Weather Central's LIVE and 3D: Live graphics systems, as well as ESP: LIVE radar; excellent written, computer and communications skills; the ability to establish organizational processes and procedures; work and cope under time pressure and have demonstrated team leadership. Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related field from four-year College and prior broadcast experience required. AMS and/or NWA Seal or eligibility for certification preferred. Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
