Bowie Group Closer To Getting An Election For Alcohol Sales

The Association for the Betterment of Bowie is closer to getting an election for alcohol sales in the Justice of the Peace Precinct Two.

The group has gathered just over 1,000 signatures on three petitions. One of the association organizers said he anticipates submitting the petitions to the county clerk by July 8.

The petitions were picked up on May 20 and the group has 30 days to gather the required signatures of at least 1,133. The association would like to have the election on the November general election ballot. Once the petitions have been completed, the voter registrar will have 30 days to verify the signatures.

The petitions has three questions: To legalize the sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only; the sale of all alcoholic beverages for off premise consumption only; and the legal sale of beer and wine.
