Representative Thornberry On Debt Showdown

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has canceled the week long recess to continue a debt compromise, but lawmakers have their work cut out for them.

Both parties agree spending cuts are needed, however democrats, and the Obama Administration, want to see higher taxes for the rich. Republicans aren't budging on the issue.

U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry talked to Newschannel 6 about the debt showdown.

He said "I am glad to see the President is finally talking about reducing the deficit, but raising taxes is not the answer, especially in this economy. Significant spending cuts must be the first step then we should focus on a meaningful plan to control spending."
