Wichita Falls has yet another NCAA Division I athlete.
Griffin Russell of Wichita Falls High School, and the Burkburnett Blacksox, has committed to the Oklahoma State Cowboys for the fall of 2012.
He was an all-District 4-4A pitcher in 2011, with a 3.27 ERA and 91 strikeouts for the Coyotes, almost leading them to an unlikely playoff spot this spring.
He also hit .337 with four home runs, four triples and 29 runs batted in.
He'll join Rider's Gage Green in Stillwater in the fall of 2012, with his first season there coming in the spring of 2013.
Russell wasted no time showing why he's heading to a Big 12 school.
He defeated the #2-ranked team in the southern United States, 43-time national champion Houston Banditos 17U, 1-0 Thursday in the Rice Owls Invitational in Houston.
Later the Blacksox got a complete game from Blake Estep, and Burkburnett's own Bret Lewis had a home run and a double, accounting for all four RBI in a 4-0 win over Mariucci Elite, of Houston.
