UPDATE: AA Checking For Engine Fire In Brazil-Bound Flight

GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - A Federal Aviation Administration official says the agency stands by its findings that there was an engine fire aboard an American Airlines jet that made an emergency landing at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro says airport firefighters reported extinguishing a fire in the right engine of the Boeing 777 after it landed Sunday night. The crew of Flight 963 to Sao Paolo, Brazil, returned to Dallas-Fort Worth because the plane was experiencing engine problems.

American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said earlier Monday that a warning light indicated there was an engine fire but that an examination determined there was none. He later said the airline is still investigating the matter. All 246 passengers were redirected to other flights.
